Jim Flory: The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat | Sept 6 through 30
The Kathrin Cawein Gallery at Pacific University is pleased to present eight years of photographs capturing the US Olympic Trials in Track and Field by credentialed photographer Jim Flory. “Jim Flory: The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat” will run from September 6 – 30, 2016 with an opening reception and artist talk on September 6 at noon in the gallery.
Trailing the end of the Rio Summer Olympics, this exhibition gives a glimpse into the trials leading up to the largest sporting event in the world. The series was shot regionally over eight years at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon and features leading figures in US Track and Field. The artist asserts, “the images that you see in this show are a collection of some of the best athletes in our country seeing dreams dashed or coming true in mili-seconds thru the lenses of my cameras.“
Jim Flory is a fine arts photographer that specializes in travel and sports photography. He has been a photography professor at Pacific University for over 20 years and hopes this show will inspire a new generation of sports photographers and engage an audience with the drama and excitement implicit in an event of this magnitude.
