May Commencement Information

Academic Honors - Arts and Sciences

Only academic honor cords are allowed to be worn with regalia. Honor cords will be distributed to graduates by the College of Arts and Sciences as they line up in the Field House directly before marching into the stadium for the commencement ceremony.

Students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance may graduate with one of the following distinctions:

summa cum laude

Candidates for baccalaureate degrees who achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.91 to 4.00.

magna cum laude

Candidates for baccalaureate degrees who achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.70 to 3.909.

cum laude

Candidates for baccalaureate degrees who achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 to 3.699.

Parking Lot M, next to Lincoln Park Stadium, is designated for people with limited mobility and disabled persons parking passes. All parking is on a first-come-first-served basis. Parking Lot M is also the designated drop-off location for people needing assistance or who cannot walk long distances. The shuttle also drops people off in Lot M for people parking around campus.

Disabled seating is available at the ceremony. All seating is on a first-come-first-served basis. For safety reasons, all aisles must be kept clear during the ceremony. There is seating for 1200 people in our stadium bleachers including accessible seating for 12 wheelchairs. Seating for 2000 people is available on the track and football field in front of the stadium bleachers. Ample wheelchair seating is available.

Accommodations for Out-of-Town Guests

It isn’t too early to make travel and hotel arrangements for your guests. Limited overnight accommodations are available in Forest Grove; in addition, a number of hotels and motels in Hillsboro, Beaverton and Portland are within driving distance of the Forest Grove campus. For more information, contact the Chambers of Commerce of each city, or the Washington County Visitors Association at 503-644-5555.
 

Apply for Graduation

All students must Apply for Graduation. You must Apply for Graduation through BoxerOnline.
 

Breakfast

Aramark is open for breakfast for graduates and their families. Graduates meal will be free the morning of graduation. Breakfast is in the University Center commons and starts at 7:30 a.m.
 

Cap & Gown

Graduates participating in the Commencement Ceremony must wear academic regalia. You will be able to purchase your regalia at the Countdown to Graduation event on February 3, 2015 at the University Center in the Multipurpose Room. Caps and Gowns ordered after April 6, 2015 will be charged a $15 late fee. If you have questions about ordering and purchasing regalia, please call the Pacific University Bookstore at 503-359-1082.

Completing Degree Requirements

The Registrar’s Office reviews your degree requirements after you Apply for Graduation and contacts your Program Director if there are concerns. Golf Cart Shuttles

There will be golf cart shuttles for guests with limited mobility. Please wave a cart driver down or talk to an usher if you or your guest needs a ride.
 

Hometown Press Release

After Commencement, a press release announcing graduates is sent to their hometown newspapers. Students who do not want their information sent to news organizations, or have questions, should contact Media Relations Director Joe Lang at 503-352-2902 or jlang@pacificu.edu.

All Pacific University parking lots are available on a first-come-first-served basis. No parking permits are needed. Please be courteous when parking on the streets in the neighborhoods around campus.

Student Accounts

All accounts must be paid in full before you graduate. If you anticipate an outstanding balance after you graduate, please contact the Business Office to make arrangement for payment. Students with outstanding balances after graduation cannot receive their diplomas or transcripts.
 

Student Loans

Students who received federal student loans must complete exit interviews before graduating or leaving campus. The Financial Aid Office will contact you to set up those appointments.
 

Tickets

Tickets are NOT needed for May Commencement. All family and friends are invited to attend commencement to celebrate the achievements of their graduate.
 

Video

All commencement ceremonies are recorded. The ceremonies can be watched live online. The live feed also includes captioning of the ceremony. Guests that are hearing-impaired or would benefit from watching the live video feed with captioning are encouraged to bring a smart-phone or tablet to watch the live feed during the ceremony in the stadium. A live video-feed can also be watched in the gym during the ceremony.
