Modern Mandolin Quartet

The Modern Mandolin Quartet was created in the 1980s as a quartet of mandolin family instruments (two mandolins, a mandola and a mandocello) in the mandolin ensemble tradition of the early 1900s. The group started out hoping to achieve the standards of the great classical string quartets and has since included bluegrass and other styles (just because it could be done).

Originally created for the performers’ personal enjoyment, the group rapidly achieved success with four albums on Windham Hill Records and concert tours throughout the U.S. and Europe. With the release of Americana, a collection of American music on Sono Luminus, the quartet of Dana Rath, Paul Binkley, Matt Flinner, and Adam Roszkiewicz are thrilling listeners around the world.
