An advocate for continued professional development and a strong team collaborator and leader in pharmacy education, Dr. Fuentes has served in faculty and administrative roles across four different pharmacy programs in varying stages of change and growth. Having served as a faculty member, he has found strategic ways to guide his work in the tripartite mission of teaching, scholarship and service to feed into key areas within leadership. His clinical background includes having practiced in acute care, inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, and long-term care. He has worked collaboratively with other healthcare providers using interprofessional frameworks within both the clinical and academic settings. As a faculty member and an administrator, Dr. Fuentes has mentored colleagues with diverse backgrounds as a former department chair of pharmacy practice and interim chair of pharmaceutical sciences. As it relates to academics, he has worked with new programs in the development and early implementation of pharmacy curricula with great emphasis on active learning, integration, team teaching, and student engagement and motivation. Pertaining to assessment, Dr. Fuentes has worked collaboratively with colleagues to ensure optimal results in the development of reports for accreditation and has led projects aimed at demonstrating institutional effectiveness and student learning.
Areas of Research and Specialization
My areas of research include strengths-based leadership development, interprofessional identity and development, measuring institutional effectiveness, student motivation for learning, and curricular development.
