Dr. Garcia is an activist practitioner, educator. She teaches undergraduate and graduate social work students, and public interest lawyers. She has worked in the fields of gender violence, Immigrant and Refugee Rights, mental health, with an emphasis on Latino families. After twenty years of practice as psychotherapist, administrator, clinical supervisor and organizational consultant, Dr. Garcia decided to return to the educational milieu to develop her skills to better prepare future social workers. Her research interests include: Interdisciplinary collaboration, Effective resolution of conflict, trauma, social identity, and cultural dimensions of health and social work practice. Dr. Garcia seeks to integrate the best of conventional modalities with “traditional” healing ways to honor the cultural, gender and class experiences of each person.
