Dr. Pike joined the Pacific University faculty in 1970 when he coordinated the Vision Screening Program, served as a course instructor and was interim Clinic Director. He worked in private practice in Montana for more than 15 years in the late 70’s to 1991. Dr. Pike served as an assistant professor and Vision Screening Coordinator at Southern California College of Optometry and then returned to the Northwest in 1994. From 1994 to 2006 he served as an adjunct clinical professor at Pacific University working in the clinics as an attending doctor. He was in private practice in Beaverton, Oregon until he retired in 2006 and joined Pacific’s faculty again as an assistant professor. Dr. Pike is the past President of the Pacific University Alumni Association and has been active in the Vision Care Section of the American Public Health Association for 22 years.

In addition to his responsibilities at the College of Optometry, Dr. Pike runs a non-profit charitable organization, Enfoque Ixcán, which delivers eye care to a remote region of Guatemala. He leads a group of optometry students from Amigos Eye Care (Student VOSH) on an eye care mission trip to Guatemala each year.

Dr. Pike is from Billings, Montana. He enjoys outdoor activities including: running, biking, canoeing and hiking.

What does he enjoy most about teaching at the College of Optometry?

I enjoy being around and having for friends, faculty, staff and students, with a common commitment toward the profession of optometry and learning as a life-style. It’s refreshing to have the activities of a small college campus, like Pacific University, readily available. In addition, the location and environment at Pacific fits my love for the beauty and pace of Northwest living.
