Wilber joined the School of Dental Health Science as a full-time clinical instructor in August 2013. Wilber is in a “co-faculty” position in cooperation with the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center. Wilber completed his entry-level dental hygiene education at Pacific University graduating with a bachelor of science degree in dental hygiene. Prior to completing his dental hygiene education, Wilber was educated as a dentist in his native country of Peru, where he practiced as a dentist in a public health clinic, in a private dental practice, and as a volunteer with the Peruvian Red Cross.
Wilber worked as a part-time clinical instructor with the School of Dental Health Science for four years prior to moving into this full-time clinical faculty position. Wilber owns Dental Reach, an expanded practice dental hygiene business that provides dental care to underserved patients with a focus on the uninsured and immigrant Latino population. Wilber is an active member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and the American Dental Education Association.
Wilber’s teaching schedule includes approximately three days per week with Pacific University and two days per week with Virginia Garcia. Wilber coordinates the Smile Care Everywhere program for the School of Dental Health Science, which provides dental hygiene services to underserved patients in the community with an emphasis on the Latino population. His work with Virginia Garcia includes patient care, supervision of dental and dental hygiene students and development of interprofessional education experiences.
