CCE Gets Students Into Community Through G.I.V.E.

The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) has had a busy year, hosting a wide variety of service events and helping to get students involved in the community through G.I.V.E. (Get Involved Via Engagement) projects.

Last September, Pacific students and faculty participated in the SOLVE Cannon Beach Cleanup. With the help of Pacific's 20 volunteers, nearly 55,000 pounds of litter, marine debris, and recyclables were removed from the beach that day. Students participated in a second beach cleanup March 26, and the CCE is awaiting results, hoping to break that record.

Last October, 11 students and one staff member ventured into Portland for the afternoon to volunteer with Potluck in the Park, serving food to homeless community members. Another Potluck in the Park service trip will be held on May 1.

In December, a group of students and staff members went to the Community Cycling Center's annual Holiday Bike Drive at Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland, helping children get sized for helmets, pick out new bicycles, and learn how to ride.

This March, 15 students volunteered at a construction site owned by Habitat for Humanity, helping to provide quality housing for those in need.
