A Message from the University Chaplain

Dear Students, Faculty & Staff,

Earlier this week, we learned from President Hallick about the passing of Lorelle Browning, professor of English. Many in the Pacific community have been left hurting by this unexpected loss. Memorial plans are now taking shape. In the meantime, each of you should know there are venues where you can seek out someone to talk with.

Students may call the Student Counseling Center at 503-352-2191. For faculty and staff, our Employee Assistance Program provides services through Cascade Center

You just need to call and say you are an employee of Pacific University.

Cascade Center
Toll Free: 1-800-433-2320
Portland: 503-639-3009
Salem: 503-588-0777

As university chaplain, I am also available to provide support – an extra person to talk with – regardless of whatever faith tradition you might hold (in fact, you don’t even need to have a faith tradition).

Please don’t hesitate to find someone to talk with. Dr. Browning’s life and work were important. There will be an opportunity for the community to celebrate all she accomplished later this summer.

For now, be kind to one another and to yourself as we grieve this loss.

In Peace,

Rev. Chuck Currie
University Chaplain
