MFA Alumnus Garners Attention for Upcoming Book

Kase Johnstun MFA ‘11 recently was featured in the Standard Examiner for his new book, “Beyond the Grip of Craniosynostosis: An Inside View of Life Touched by the Congenital Skull Deformity,” publishing at the end of December 2014.

Johnstun was born with the condition, though he had corrective surgery when he was an infant. When his own son was on the way, he decided to learn more.

The book is a combination of memoir, interviews with other families who have been touched by the condition, and medical research.

Johnstun is an award-winning essayist whose work has appeared in national and international journals and magazine. He was a finalist for the Autumn House Press 2014 Award in Creative Nonfiction and is a full-time lecturer at Utah State University. He is an alumnus of Pacific University's master of fine arts in writing program.
