Outdoor Pursuits Attempts to Reach Mt. Rainier Summit

Despite the threat of inclement weather, the Pacific University Outdoor Pursuits Climbing Team had an awesome adventure on Mt. Rainier last month.

The team of 12, consisting of eight student climbers and four Pacific University guides, set out from the White River Campground on the north side of the mountain on Tuesday, July 5, set on climbing the Emmons-Winthrop Route. They successfully made it to Camp Schurman at 9,600 feet on Wednesday, July 6, and spent the night there, before a storm forced them to abandon their summit attempt on July 7.

The team was disappointed that they did not reach the summit, but spirits remained high on the descent and many participants have plans to attempt the route again in the future.
