Pacific University student Jacob Palumbo honored by Oregon NASA Space Grant Consortium

FOREST GROVE -- The Oregon NASA Space Grant Consortium has awarded Pacific University chemistry student Jacob Palumbo an undergraduate research scholarship of $12,000 to continue his work studying surfactants in an effort to develop an environmentally friendly agent to clean up oil spills.

A sophomore from Hillsboro, Palumbo spent this past summer developing and analyzing computational models to study molecules similar to those in soaps that cut through grease.

In addition to subsidizing Palumbo's tuition, the scholarship will fund additional computer resources for future models and simulations, as well as travel costs to symposiums around the state.

The OSG Scholarship Programs recognize the academic accomplishments of students that intend to pursue a career in the aerospace, science, or education community.
