Prof. Kawasaki Appointed to Hawaii Governor's Healthcare Workforce Development Committee

Dental Hygiene Studies Professor Pam Kawasaki has been appointed to serve on a stakeholder committee that is providing input on the development of Hawaii’s State Healthcare Innovation Plan.

Since 2012, the Health Care Innovation Office in the Hawaii Governor’s Office has been convening stakeholders to identify strengths and challenges in Hawaii’s healthcare system and to develop strategies to develop a State Health Care Innovation Plan. This plan must address the “Triple Aim” of better health, better healthcare, and lower costs, and must also address health disparities.

The six stakeholder committees are 1) delivery & payment, 2) population health, 3) health information technology, 4) workforce development, 5) oral health, and 6) steering committee.

Prof. Kawasaki has been appointed to the Workforce Development Committee “responsible for developing a plan to help build a workforce that will support healthcare transformation now and in the future. In particular, the Committee shall identify and encourage the growth of professions needed to support the delivery of more patient-centered primary care.”
