Sam Morrison

Assistant Director of Outdoor Pursuits

Voyages Coordinator

Hello Voyages participants! I am looking forward to all the exciting trips and outstanding leaders we have for Voyages 2016! I recently moved to Oregon from Baja California, Mexico where I was an Assistant Manager for Sea Kayak Adventures. Prior to that I was a professional raft guide in Idaho and Montana, a science teacher in Guadalajara, Mexico and have been an avid whitewater kayaker for more than 10 years. I am delighted to be in the Pacific Northwest in one of the best river areas in the country! Voyages is an amazing way to kick off your time in university, while building skills and relationships that will help you to be more successful. Oregon is truly a gem for outdoor pursuits and there is no better way to experience it than to come on a Voyage!

Hi y'all! My name is Amanda and I'm from Redding, California (bonus points if you know where that is). I am pursuing a degree in Biology with a minor in Outdoor Leadership. I love being outdoors hiking, backpacking, climbing, or kayaking- anything that gets me outside with some really rad people. My ultimate goal is to work in Outdoor Education, leading people on amazing trips and helping them push past their preconceived limits. Voyages was life changing for me and I hope to help create a similar experience for you guys. I can't wait to see everyone's bright and shining faces this summer! We're going to have a blast!

Exercise Science '16

Hey everyone! my name is Katelyn Hennes, and I am an exercise science major and outdoor leadership minor from sunny San Diego. My Voyage freshman year was the first time I had ever really done anything incredibly outdoorsy and going on the trip made me realized that I love being in the backcountry. I had an amazing time and hopefully you guys will all have as great of an experience on your voyage as I did! I am a swimmer here at Pacific but in addition to swimming I love anything that keeps me active and gets me outdoors. Once I am done with my swimming career here I hope to get into doing triathlons, however my ultimate goal is to become a physical therapist. I can't wait to meet and share my enthusiasm for the outdoors with all of you! You all have some good times coming your way, and I hope your Voyage can be the start of some of the best experiences of your life.

Biology '18

Yo! My name is Katie and I am a member of the class of 2018. I'm a Biology major with an Outdoor Leadership minor (if all goes as planned), with the ultimate goal of becoming a Developmental Pediatrician who owns a lot of dogs. Aside from laughing, I enjoy running, sketching, and bad jokes. I try to live life optimistically with a healthy dose of sarcasm or dirty feet (see Tailor Dolgin regarding this point), and happy people. As an Oregonian, I grew up with nature all around me! My preference is to be on the water or in a tree, but spending time in the OP program has shown me how cool climbing and playing in the snow can be. Welcome to Pacific, class of 2020! I hope your Voyage gets you stoked to start this adventure as a Boxer, and that you make some great memories! I know I'm psyched to be taking more goons into the Pacific Northwest, so get pumped!

Hey! My name is Eli (sounds like Ellie) Cruz. My dad is in the military so I'm kinda from everywhere. I'm a swimmer for Pacific and have been swimming my whole life, I love it. Both of my parents are very outdoorsy people which is where I get it from. My  favorite things besides swimming, are skiing(winter), camping, and photography. I've never lived in Oregon before, but now that I'm here, I don't think I'll every leave. It's beautiful.

Environmental Biology '18

Hey y’all! I’m from Moscow* up in the Idaho panhandle, and I came to Pacific to pursue an environmental biology degree and tack on a Spanish degree for good measure. The Outdoor Pursuits crowd has the raddest-- most grounded-- people you will associate with at Pacific, so becoming a part of the team has been an excellent journey. OP has been a huge part of my college experience, allowing me to explore my passions for backpacking and climbing, but also my personal connection to nature. Our team can’t wait to get out there and do what we love the most!

Integrated Media '18

Hey all! My name is Katy Snyder and I am from Seattle, Washington. I am pursuing an integrated media major and an outdoor leadership minor. At the beginning of my freshman year of high school, a couple of my friends and I helped to begin an outdoor adventure group for high school students. Through this program, I grew my leadership skills along with my passion for being in the outdoors. I love being outdoors all year long, exploring the beautiful area in which we live. My favorite activities in the outdoors include climbing, hiking, and XC skiing. I would love to continue being involved with outdoor education for the rest of my life; I feel the backcountry is where you meet some of the coolest people and it is very important to educate those heading into the backcountry so they stay safe and do not harm the environment. I am stoked to get to know all of you and make this an amazing transition to Pacific!

Biology/Public Health '17

Hey y'all! My name's Lily, and I'm studying biology and public health here at Pacific. I've always been grateful to call the beautiful PNW my home, but it wasn't until my own freshman Voyage that I got to see all it had to offer (Smith Rocks. 10/10. Would recommend). It never fails to amaze me how the outdoors can bring unlikely friends together, inspire, and teach you about yourself. And it seems no matter what I'm doing--be it climbing, on the water, or hiking--the moment I step outside I never return disappointed. Partaking in a Voyage was and still is one of the best decisions I have made and I’m so psyched at the possibility of being a part of yours. See you soon!

Hello! My name is Sydney and I am from sunny southern California, Pomona to be more exact. I will be a junior studying exercise science with a minor in business to become a future physical therapist. My voyage my freshman year was my first real experience to the wonderful world of the backcountry and since then I have I loved it!  I have been trying different adventures that take me outdoors and exploring the Pacific Northwest like: canoeing, hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, etc. I hope you all choose to go on a voyage; it’s where I have made so many new and awesome friends. I hope to see you all this summer!

English '18

Hello future Pacificonians (Pacific-ites? Boxers?)!! I’m Tailor, I’m originally from Colorful Colorado, and I’m a member of the Class of 2018. I’m an English Literature Major with Minors in Business and Outdoor Leadership and unhealthy obsessions with both books and boy bands. I’m a firm believer in the barefoot lifestyle and an even bigger believer in the awesome power of the outdoors so being a part of the Voyages Team is something I love, love, love. When I don’t have my nose in a book or my toes in the dirt I coach volleyball in Beaverton and wreak havoc in Pacific’s Admissions Office. Jumping on a Voyage my freshman year was one of my favorite things about coming to Pac U, and I can’t wait to share that adventure with you!

Physics '17

Greetings future Boxers! My name is Bryce Fowler and I am from Heppner, Oregon. I am currently a sophomore here at Pacific, majoring in Physics with minors in both Mathematics and Computer Science. Last year I participated in Track & Field and Ultimate Frisbee and have been performing piano at student forums each semester. The outdoors have always been a big part of my life; as a young lad I was frequently hiking, camping, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding. I have recently started mountaineering and rock climbing during my time here at Pacific, and when the weather's primo you might see me out skydiving! I did not attend a Voyage my freshman year, but as an employee for Outdoor Pursuits I have been able to see how much fun these outings are for both participants and staff. I am truly excited to embark into the wilderness with you merry folk; minstrels will sing ballads of our glorious adventures for years to come!

Biology '18

What’s up everyone, my name is Jon and I am from Canby, Oregon. I am a biology major and am thinking of the outdoor leadership minor. I hope to continue on to the Optometry program here at Pacific. I, like every other voyage leader, have a huge passion for getting outdoors. I have been involved in the outdoors ever since I was a child. Although I started with simple day hikes and tailgate camping, I have since found my passion for multi-day back country trips involving sea kayaking or backpacking. Being in the wilderness always reminds me how simple life can be and what raw, natural beauty looks like. Back in civilization my passion lies on the diamond. I am a Boxer baseball player and love every minute of it. I look forward to meeting you as you start some of the best years of your life!

Alyssa Thompson

Voyage Leader

Biology '17

Hey! My name is Alyssa and I am from a small town in northern Colorado. My intended major is Biology and I am interested in the career of Optometry. My experience outdoors includes lots of fishing, camping, hiking, backpacking, canoeing, and sea kayaking. Other activities I participate in at Pacific outside of academics include: the Women’s Rugby club, optometry club, and I play flute in the Symphonic band. As an out of state student coming to a place where I did not know anyone, participating in Voyages in my freshman year was one of the best decisions I could have made since coming to Pacific. I found people who enjoyed the outdoors as much as me, I found a group of friends who I can trust and depend on, and I found a place that I could fall back on when my academics were draining me of my sanity! Most importantly though, I found an environment that continually challenges me to grow personally and skillfully. College was the time I decided to try things out of my comfort zone, and participating with Voyages was my first step to trying things completely new in the most inviting, fun, and friendly atmosphere! I invite all people, of many gifts and differences, to try voyages out and hope to guarantee that it will be one of the best decisions of your college career! I look forward to meeting you!
