We are proud of this amazing group of Pacific staff, faculty, and students that make up the Voyages Team, and work year-round to make Voyages the best experience it can be. We come from many different geographical origins and a wide range of backgrounds, but are brought together by our shared passions for the outdoors and connecting with others
We hope to see you on a Voyage!
Kris Williams MAT
Voyages Program Director
Hello future Voyages participants! I am super excited about Voyages 2015 as we have some fantastic new student coordinators, instructors, and trips this year. Prior to coming to Pacific I spent the last 19 years in various outdoor jobs in Oregon and Colorado. I have worked as a downhill ski instructor, ran a parks and recreation outdoor adventure summer camp, was a guide for a wilderness therapy program, and spent nine years as a program director of a nonprofit outdoor adventure program. Nothing gets me more excited than helping people learn about themselves and have fun in the outdoors. I can't wait to meet you all this summer on your voyage. In the meantime give me a call or email me and I can answer any questions you have about the Voyages Program.
Hi y'all! My name is Amanda and I'm from Redding, California (bonus points if you know where that is). I am pursuing a degree in Biology with a minor in Outdoor Leadership. I love being outdoors hiking, backpacking, climbing, or kayaking- anything that gets me outside with some really rad people. My ultimate goal is to work in Outdoor Education, leading people on amazing trips and helping them push past their preconceived limits. Voyages was life changing for me and I hope to help create a similar experience for you guys. I can't wait to see everyone's bright and shining faces this summer! We're going to have a blast!
Exercise Science '16
Hey everyone! my name is Katelyn Hennes, and I am an exercise science major and outdoor leadership minor from sunny San Diego. My Voyage freshman year was the first time I had ever really done anything incredibly outdoorsy and going on the trip made me realized that I love being in the backcountry. I had an amazing time and hopefully you guys will all have as great of an experience on your voyage as I did! I am a swimmer here at Pacific but in addition to swimming I love anything that keeps me active and gets me outdoors. Once I am done with my swimming career here I hope to get into doing triathlons, however my ultimate goal is to become a physical therapist. I can't wait to meet and share my enthusiasm for the outdoors with all of you! You all have some good times coming your way, and I hope your Voyage can be the start of some of the best experiences of your life.
Exercise Science '18
I am currently a Freshman here at Pacific. I plan on majoring in Exercise Science and minoring in Communications Sciences & Disorders. I hope to take this knowledge with me to medical school in Europe as I study to become a Developmental Pediatrician! I love to paint and draw, play sports (mainly soccer), run (allllll over. Running is my life!), and being outdoors. I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, whether I'm at school or home. I met my best friend here, Eli, on our voyage- so I am super psyched to lead one this coming year! I am really pumped and excited to be able to add this experience to my portfolio!
Hello and welcome to Pacific! I'm a Junior here at school majoring in Physics and minoring in Outdoor Leadership. Portland is my home which made car camping in the NW the norm for my family while growing up. In the last few years I've begun to explore other types of outdoorsy activities like backpacking, kayaking, rafting, challenge courses, hiking, rock climbing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. I've enjoyed every minute of those activities because they challenged me and gave me some awesome memories! I've learned about myself and others through these adventures. I love taking new people into the woods or onto the river to share experiences and make new memories. As I look forward to leading a Voyage, my hope is that I can be a part of your adventure as you begin this new chapter in life. Looking forward to meeting you all!
Social Work '16
Hello! My name is Celine Yip and I'm a Social Work major and Chinese minor! I'm from Portland, OR (Portlandia, amirite?) and I'm kind of interested in everything! I love to read, draw, dance, go on reddit, read comics, paint, do henna, and of course, be outside! I'm on Pacific's Dance Team and at one point was the secretary of our board game club- which was the coolest position ever. Genuinely getting to know people and forming new relationships is also one of my favorite things to do in life, because I love learning about different snapshots from a person's life and being surprised at what I didn't expect. My future goals are to continue my education well into my doctorate degree and work in public policy or as a college professor! You have no idea how excited I am to meet you and hopefully we can all share in some spectacular adventures together!
I grew up in Aberdeen, Washington. I'm 20 years old. Middle name is Rose. Played volleyball and tennis in high school, graduated in 2013. I transferred in to Pacific as a sophomore, and I'm here for a business degree with a medical set up. I haven't decided on which master program yet but I want to be in the medical field. I will be the first one in my family to even complete a bachelor's degree, and also to move on to a masters. I am currently working as a medical assistant in an optometrist office. I enjoy day hikes and backpacking, as well as kayaking. I want to learn how to rock climb, it is my goal for the year!
This is my first year as a voyage leader! I'm super excited! My first voyage I went on backpack/canoe! I absolutely loved my experience and how much I bonded with my group.
Hey y’all! I’m from Moscow* up in the Idaho panhandle, and I came to Pacific to pursue an environmental biology degree and tack on a Spanish degree for good measure. The Outdoor Pursuits crowd has the raddest-- most grounded-- people you will associate with at Pacific, so becoming a part of the team has been an excellent journey. OP has been a huge part of my college experience, allowing me to explore my passions for backpacking and climbing, but also my personal connection to nature. Our team can’t wait to get out there and do what we love the most!
Integrated Media '18
Hey all! My name is Katy Snyder and I am from Seattle, Washington. I am pursuing an integrated media major and an outdoor leadership minor. At the beginning of my freshman year of high school, a couple of my friends and I helped to begin an outdoor adventure group for high school students. Through this program, I grew my leadership skills along with my passion for being in the outdoors. I love being outdoors all year long, exploring the beautiful area in which we live. My favorite activities in the outdoors include climbing, hiking, and XC skiing. I would love to continue being involved with outdoor education for the rest of my life; I feel the backcountry is where you meet some of the coolest people and it is very important to educate those heading into the backcountry so they stay safe and do not harm the environment. I am stoked to get to know all of you and make this an amazing transition to Pacific!
Biology/Public Health '17
Hey y'all! My name's Lily, and I'm studying biology and public health here at Pacific. I've always been grateful to call the beautiful PNW my home, but it wasn't until my own freshman Voyage that I got to see all it had to offer (Smith Rocks. 10/10. Would recommend). It never fails to amaze me how the outdoors can bring unlikely friends together, inspire, and teach you about yourself. And it seems no matter what I'm doing--be it climbing, on the water, or hiking--the moment I step outside I never return disappointed. Partaking in a Voyage was and still is one of the best decisions I have made and I’m so psyched at the possibility of being a part of yours. See you soon!
Greetings to all! Next fall I will be a junior at Pacific, majoring in Biology and minoring in Outdoor Leadership and Spanish. My hometown is not far from the “Grove” at all: good ol’ Portland, Oregon. Ever since I was little I have always loved the outdoors and everything about it. It probably started after attending an overnight summer camp when I was younger: rafting, campfires, making new friends, horseback riding, hiking… the list goes on! Although it is hard to narrow it down, the activities I am most passionate about include: rafting, backpacking, rock climbing, and swimming in a chilly river or lake on a hot summer day. I am super stoked and thrilled to meet all of you and embark on the journey of a lifetime! In the meantime… Get outdoors! Ta-ta for now!
Hi guys! My name is Clark and I’m a sophomore from San Francisco California. I’m an Anthropology major and a Spanish minor and plan to do something in non-profit volunteer work after college. I am on the men’s tennis team here at Pacific and have been playing for ten years. I love the outdoors and it’s been a part of my life since I was a little kid. My family and I hike regularly around the San Francisco Bay Area and have done so ever since I was young. I went on Voyages before my freshman year and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I bonded with my leaders and fellow participants right away and many are still very close friends of mine now. I cannot wait for Voyages this next year and meet all you guys!
Greetings future Boxers! My name is Bryce Fowler and I am from Heppner, Oregon. I am currently a sophomore here at Pacific, majoring in Physics with minors in both Mathematics and Computer Science. Last year I participated in Track & Field and Ultimate Frisbee and have been performing piano at student forums each semester. The outdoors have always been a big part of my life; as a young lad I was frequently hiking, camping, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding. I have recently started mountaineering and rock climbing during my time here at Pacific, and when the weather's primo you might see me out skydiving! I did not attend a Voyage my freshman year, but as an employee for Outdoor Pursuits I have been able to see how much fun these outings are for both participants and staff. I am truly excited to embark into the wilderness with you merry folk; minstrels will sing ballads of our glorious adventures for years to come!
What’s up everyone, my name is Jon and I am from Canby, Oregon. I am a biology major and am thinking of the outdoor leadership minor. I hope to continue on to the Optometry program here at Pacific. I, like every other voyage leader, have a huge passion for getting outdoors. I have been involved in the outdoors ever since I was a child. Although I started with simple day hikes and tailgate camping, I have since found my passion for multi-day back country trips involving sea kayaking or backpacking. Being in the wilderness always reminds me how simple life can be and what raw, natural beauty looks like. Back in civilization my passion lies on the diamond. I am a Boxer baseball player and love every minute of it. I look forward to meeting you as you start some of the best years of your life!

Integrated Media/ Dance '18
Hello! My name is Annalise, and I’m from Milton, Washington. I am planning to double major in Integrated Media and Dance. I’ve never been a super sportsy person, but I have always loved to dance. It’s one of my biggest passions. But when I’m not dancing, I love to be outdoors. Whether it’s something I love, like hiking and kayaking, or something totally new to me, I’m always up for an adventure. Last year I went on the Sea Kayaking Voyage, and I had a blast! So far, it has definitely been one of the highlights of my time here at Pacific University. I can’t wait to share the Voyage experience with you!
Hey! My name is Alyssa and I am from a small town in northern Colorado. My intended major is Biology and I am interested in the career of Optometry. My experience outdoors includes lots of fishing, camping, hiking, backpacking, canoeing, and sea kayaking. Other activities I participate in at Pacific outside of academics include: the Women’s Rugby club, optometry club, and I play flute in the Symphonic band. As an out of state student coming to a place where I did not know anyone, participating in Voyages in my freshman year was one of the best decisions I could have made since coming to Pacific. I found people who enjoyed the outdoors as much as me, I found a group of friends who I can trust and depend on, and I found a place that I could fall back on when my academics were draining me of my sanity! Most importantly though, I found an environment that continually challenges me to grow personally and skillfully. College was the time I decided to try things out of my comfort zone, and participating with Voyages was my first step to trying things completely new in the most inviting, fun, and friendly atmosphere! I invite all people, of many gifts and differences, to try voyages out and hope to guarantee that it will be one of the best decisions of your college career! I look forward to meeting you!
Exercise Science '16
What’s up? My name is Michael Mejia, I’m from Farm Town USA: Fresno California, and I’m going to be a senior here at Pacific. I am an Exercise Science major with an emphasis on motor behavior. I am also a member of the Boxer Football team. Going on Voyages before starting fall football camp was the best decision I could’ve made. It made for an awesome vacation and introduced me to the teammates that I would be spending the next four years playing with. In addition to football I am also a member of the Outdoor Pursuits program. I grew up playing outside during the hot California summers. And now, I surf, mountain bike, climb, backpack, wakeboard, and play golf here at my new home in the Pacific Northwest. Can’t wait to see all the new faces in August. Welcome to Pacific University and GO BOXERS!!!
Hello, my name is Chloe, I'm from a small group of islands in Washington state, so I grew up surrounded by nature. I love being outdoors, whether it be hiking, canoeing, kayaking or any other activity. I row here at Pacific and absolutely love it. I have not declared a major, but I know I will be minoring in outdoor leadership.I went on the surfing voyage last year and it was a wonderful way to meet people and have a rockin' time, I am so excited and can't wait to meet you all.
