Center for a Sustainable Society

Pacific University's Center for a Sustainable Society provides students an opportunity to experience the university's commitment to sustainability and work within a collaborative framework to cultivate an engaged community dedicated to ethical, transdisciplinary solutions that advance the wellbeing of people and places, locally and across the world, now and in the future. We believe that sustainability is a framework, and set of practices that recognize the complexity and interconnections between ecological integrity, social equity, and economic vitality.  The center promotes opportunities for research, education, and practical experiences for students to work on projects related to environmental stewardship, sustainable business practices, food insecurity, environmental justice, challenging consumption trends, energy efficiency, and more.

The center works with faculty to strengthen and create new course offerings in sustainability across our campuses; within the undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences we have two sustainability focused majors— Applied Sustainability and Environmental Studies: Policy, Culture, and Society. We promote connections with local stakeholders and community partners, to increase opportunities for meaningful engagement and local/regional impact.
