Pacific University will be displaying panels of the AIDS memorial quilt during November. The display not only serves to remember those who died of AIDS, but also to bring awareness and hope. Stop by and take a look at this powerful exhibit.
The AIDS Quilt began in 1987 as a memorial to those who died of AIDS. The AIDS Quilt has grown to a 54-ton tapestry that includes more than 45,000 panels dedicated to more than 88,000 individuals. It is the largest piece of community art in the world. While it illustrates the number of people lost to the epidemic it also helps families and communities heal from their losses. Additionally it confronts the stigma attached to HIV/AIDS, opens a dialogue about the epidemic, promotes education, and motivates individuals to take direct action to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. Each panel features the name of a loved one who has died of AIDS.
