School of Occupational Therapy
The Science and the Art
Students in the Pacific University School of Occupational Therapy learn both the science, and the art, of occupational therapy to enable their clients to live more satisfying and meaningful lives by addressing how those clients "occupy" their time.
We believe that people are healthiest when they are satisfactorily engaged in the meaningful activities of everyday living, what we call occupations. Pacific occupational therapy students learn to apply critical reasoning skills to creatively solve problems facing their clients whose quality of life is threatened by interruptions in daily occupation caused by injury, disease, or environmental challenges (such as poverty, deprivation, or conflict).
Our Goal
Our goal in the School of Occupational Therapy, is to create a community of learning, rooted in the core philosophy of the profession, that encourages professional growth and the realization of leadership potential so that graduates will be able to lead their clients and communities to healthful living.
If the opportunity to help individuals create more meaningful lives for themselves sounds interesting to you, then I hope you'll learn more about occupational therapy and the unique educational experience that you can receive at the Pacific University School of Occupational Therapy.
What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapists help people "do" what they want to do, which improves their sense of satisfaction and fulfillment and contributes to their subsequent health and well-being. In helping clients gain greater self-awareness through daily occupations, occupational therapists facilitate the client's ability to create and engage in daily activities which give meaning to the person's life.
