The Criteria for Selection

The principal criteria for selection for a grant under the Hewlett Program are three:

  1. Projects will illustrate the advantages of collaborative teaching across the curriculum, and especially between teh graduate and undergraduate schools and colleges.
  2. Projects which suggest innovations in pedagogy, and which introduce imaginative ways of dealing with the teaching process.
  3. Projects which place central importance on the active learning process (experimental and service learning).

Other criteria also important as you plan your proposals:

  • A need for a sound evaluation strategy which clearly shows measurable outcomes for student learning.
  • The importance of a realistic dissemination process which enables your new teaching strategy to be shared locally and more widely.
  • A plan of action which is realistic and practicable, and a budget which fits the needs of the project.
  • A project which has the potential to serve as a model for other teachers.
  • An emphasis on the importance of civic culture, so that students understand teh relationship of their education to their role as citizans.
