First-Year Student Orientation Schedule (International)

 

August 15th, 16th, and 17th

Arrival Days

On these dates, International Programs staff are available to help new students with:

  • transportation from Portland International Airport to Forest Grove
  • checking in to on-campus housing
  • hotel reservations

Monday, August 18th

Shopping Shuttle (Optional)

9:00 a.m. — 12:00 p.m.

Transportation will be provided to take you a large shopping complex where you can shop for household goods, bedding, clothing, and personal items.

Introduction to the U.S. Banking System (Optional)

1:30 p.m. — 4:00 p.m.

Learn about the banking services available in Forest Grove, get assistance opening an account, and learn about using online and automated banking.

Fall Kick-off Party (Optional)

5:30 p.m. — 8:00 p.m.

Meet new international students, returning international students, and the Office of International Programs staff at this fun annual event! Dinner will be provided. (Dress is casual)


Tuesday, August 19th

International Student Orientation (Required)

8:00 a.m. — 12:00 p.m.

All international students (F-1 visa holders) and exchange visitors/students (J-1 visa holders) must attend this mandatory meeting, which will cover immigration regulations, the SEVIS system, employment, taxes, Social Security numbers, and the U.S. health care system. Bring the following documents and information with you for a required U.S. immigration service check-in:

  • Passport
  • I-20 (F-1s) or DS-2019 (J-1s)
  • Health insurance card/policy
  • Insurance waiver form (if eligible for waiver)
  • Immunization & health history forms
  • local address & telephone number

Welcome Luncheon with President Phil Creighton (Optional)

12:00 a.m. — 1:30 p.m.

Family members are welcome to attend this event.

Undergraduate Special Session (Required for Undergraduates)

1:30 p.m. — 4:30 p.m.
