All Pacific alumni and their families and guests are welcome to attend Reunion 2008 activities and meals. Children are also welcome to attend, however parents are requested to look after them for their safety. Events particularly friendly to families with young children are noted with an asterisk *.

THE PATH TO WILDERNESS PRESERVATION: CLASS, NATURE AND LEISURE IN PRE-NEW DEAL OREGON
Room 216, Berglund Hall
History professor, Larry Lipin will explore some of the themes around which his recent book, Workers and the Wild, develops, focusing largely on conflicts over early twentieth-century efforts in Oregon to preserve nature, particularly animals and fish that would otherwise be suitable for sport, and to develop a tourist economy.

 

UNITY IN DIVERSITY: PACIFIC'S CENTER FOR GENDER EQUITY TRAVELS IN INDIA

Martha Rampton, history professor and director of the Center for Gender Equtiy will present on student and community exchanges with Lady Doak College in Madurai, India.  Learn about the bounty, beauty, and richness of India and ways that Pacific students and community members are learning from and contributing to the peoples of this ancient culture.

 

THE 2008 ELECTIONS: HOPE AND CHANGE FOR EVERYBODY!

Political Science professor and noted political pundit, Jim Moore will present a political forecast of the 2008 elections. With the most wide-open nomination process since 1952, the 2008 elections offer voters, political parties, and the rest of the world a chance to debate where the United States should be headed. Issues of war and peace, economics, taxes, and quality of life dominate the presentation. Come for a preview of the issues, personalities, and things to watch during the fall elections.

Alumni, Natalie Ballard Strauhal, MAT ’00 and Nick ’02 and Crystal (Fitzsimmons) Miller ’02 will present on their recent experiences teaching overseas. They will be joined by current Pacific students who have recently studied abroad. The discussion will focus on the challenges and opportunities of studying or teaching overseas.

Scott Pike ’68, OD ’70 will moderate a panel discussion how Pacific alumni are making a world of difference. Panelists include Tori Eaton ’05, a former Fulbright scholar, Gina Bell ’00, a former Peace Corps volunteer who currently works with the migrant population in Forest Grove, Cheron Joy Mayhall ’64, lifetime volunteer, Melissa Barber ’97 and Brett Meyer ’96, both former Peace Corps volunteers to Mali, and Del Judy '46, MAED '75, also a Peace Corps veteran.

KIDS COLLEGE: FOR THE LOVE OF READING!*

Child Learning & Development Center, Berglund Hall
Children will be entertained at this fun session while parents attend other alumni college sessions or, parents can participate in this interactive reading time with their little ones. This session is presented by Annie (McLain) Lewis ’03, Tualatin Public Library assistant and aspiring children’s librarian. Intended for children 3+ unless a parent is present.

Visit with friends, faculty, and staff while feasting at this casual cookout. Local latin jazz favorite, Bobby Torres Ensemble, will provide entertainment. Picnic fare will include seasonal and locally grown products sure to delight the taste buds! This picnic serves as the annual meeting of the Alumni Association. A children's play are with supervised games and a special art project will be offered for all who wish to play.

The group, limited to 25 participants, will travel to The Wine Behren where attendees will sample a flight of wines, including organics. Mary Jo Morelli of Sojourn Forest Grove will meet the group at The Wine Behren and begin a walking tour of historic Forest Grove, which will conclude at Urban Decanter with a second flight of local wines paired with chocolate. Meet at 1:45 p.m. for a 2 p.m. departure.

Celebrate with new members of the Golden Guard and the Class of 1958 as they leave their mark in perpetuity on Pacific’s campus in this longstanding tradition. Once their names are etched in stone, Golden Guard inductees will ring the bell in Old College Hall.

Come take a stroll down memory lane. Connect with fellow alumni who attended Pacific in the first half of the 20th century. A new documentary film featuring Golden Guard alumni from Pacific will be unveiled.
