Applied Science

The applied science major offers students an opportunity to create a customized, interdisciplinary program in the science and mathematics fields. Students combine course work from two traditional science majors for an interdisciplinary experience. Students frequently are interested in a 3-2 engineering program (completing three years of courses at Pacific, followed by two years in an engineering program at a partnering school). They also may be interested in teaching secondary math and science, or pursuing a job in the high-tech industry.

Students tailor their course work in the natural sciences and mathematics to their interests and career goals. Course work includes introductory and intermediate classes from each of two fields of study. Students also complete a capstone and possible internship in one of the fields of study. Students who choose an applied science major may be prepared for graduate health science programs, such as optometry, pharmacy, nursing or health information programs. Students also may be prepared to start a career in high-tech or bio-tech companies or health-related industries.
