Mission
Provide opportunities for undergraduate students and faculty to collaboratively engage in research and creative activities and to produce original work that animates and advances our disciplines.

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.” – Albert Einstein

Curiosity is the driving force behind the great advances in knowledge and understanding that are the hallmark of human achievement. These advances often begin with the thoughtful exploration of a seemingly small question leading to an avalanche of insights. This happens across all areas of creative endeavor - from physics to philosophy, art to astronomy. It is important that Pacific’s faculty members and students are not merely bystanders in this process, watching paradigm shifts occur, but instead are active participants in the changes taking place.

To make this hope real, Pacific has integrated research and creative activity more fully into the central enterprise of the University, its teaching. Long known as an exceptional teaching institution, Pacific recognizes that research and creative activity invigorates, animates, and enhances teaching and that some of the most effective teaching takes place in the laboratory, in the field, or while students and faculty examine historical works together. Simply put, doing research and creative activities with students is teaching.
