English Department: Creative Writing
Pacific's workshop courses are small, intensive, and geared toward the practice of craft. Our creative writing faculty are dedicated, innovate teachers devoted to the writing arts. Their own writing and publications demonstrate their passion for craft and creativity. Under their guidance, students write extensively, provide critiques of each other's work, and perfect the art of revision. |

Student writers have access to on-campus readings by internationally recognized visiting writers, some of whom share their expertise in Pacific's Low-Residency MFA program. Undergraduates studying in Creative Writing may serve as interns during the MFA program's residencies, giving them close access to outstanding readings, craft talks, and conversations with writers. Students draw on Portland's rich literary culture as well. They attend readings by renowned writers at Powell's bookstore and take advantage of the Portland Arts and Lecture Series. Our creative writing professors also share their poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction through a campus reading series. All creative writing majors and minors serve as editors for the Silk Road, which is at the heart of Pacific's vibrant student writers' community. Creative writers practice extensive study of literature along with the craft of writing. Our obsession is literary art: immersing ourselves in it, understanding it, and creating it. |
