English Department at Pacific University

English Department: Senior Seminar

Students who major in Literature or Creative Writing develop over the course of their senior year a literary thesis or creative project to be presented publicly to Pacific University students, faculty, and community on Senior Projects Day. Each student determines her or his area of study, with the individualized guidance of one of our professors. Our faculty encourages students to follow their literary and artistic passions as they apply the skills in research and writing they have developed during their education at Pacific.

Because we educate students to pursue graduate studies in creative writing or literature, to be expert teachers, or to be highly competitive in any field they choose, students are carefully coached and assessed on the quality of their work. Senior projects have included chapters of a novel, collections of poetry, and research on writers as varied as Virginia Woolf and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. They have drawn the attention of publishers, recognized graduate programs, and scholars at national and regional conferences.
