Major in Environmental Science

Environmental Biology

Majors in this field study in the unique surroundings of the Tualatin River Basin, Pacific's John Blodgett Arboretum, the Columbia River and Tillamook Estuaries, and Fernhill Wetlands (300 acres) located in Forest Grove. Some students take advantage of our courses taught in Costa Rica and Belize, Central America. We also offer a study abroad program in Australia. Students completing this major have the theoretical and analytical skills and technical background necessary to compete in the job market for Environmental Biology, or to continue with advanced studies in a graduate degree program.

Environmental Chemistry

Environmental Chemistry student and teacher

This major couples a grounding in the fundamentals of chemistry with specialized study of environmental problems and their solutions. The core courses provide a theoretical background for understanding the chemistry of the environment as well as experience in laboratory techniques. The program emphasizes an understanding of atmospheric, ground water and aquatic chemistry and includes relevant analytical and statistical methods. Field activities in nearby areas are included. Students graduating in this program are well prepared for graduate study in environmental science or for immediate employment in environmental service industries, including analytical services.
