Areas of Research & Specialization I teach film and video production and studies because it is what I am passionate about. Film/Video is a powerful mode of expression. Through the study of film we can learn much about our society and culture. Through the practice of film/video production we can communicate to others our shared experiences. I find the teaching and practice of film/video to be a symbiotic relationship: engaging in film/video production makes me a better teacher and teaching makes me a better film/video maker. I have made several short, experimental films and videos that have shown in festivals across America and Canada. I have worked in many mediums and modes of film/video production. The most recent film is an animation film called Where you are is not where you are going. I am working on a “structuralist” video that manipulates a well-known Hollywood action film. This video makes abstract the image, while still maintaining a definite sense of the action and suspense. I am also working on a video project in which I am video-graphing images of ethnographic and other educational films being projected onto garden plants and tools. The end result is a bringing together of worldly images into a domestic garden. It’s a hard one to articulate! But look at the pretty picture. |

Course Information At Pacific University, all faculty teach a variety of different courses. Typically, we do not use graduate teaching assistants, which means that your classes will be taught by professors and that you will have plenty of opportunites to get to know the faculty in your discipline. Below I have listed some of the courses that I teach. We are always developing and trying out new classes, so the list may change now and then. You can use the links to the left to read descriptions of the courses listed below.
