Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarships

Purpose

Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries by sponsoring study abroad experiences for students interested in serving as goodwill ambassadors to their host countries.

Programs Funded

Rotary International funds several scholarship programs; the most common scholarships are Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships which provide grants for one academic year of study in another country. Rotary International also funds short-term Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships for six months of intensive language and cultural immersion in another country.

Eligibility

Selection Criteria

Applicants should be scholars with excellent academic records. In addition, Rotary Scholars are expected to act as ambassadors of goodwill to their host country, by attending meetings at local schools, organizations and clubs. Therefore, students who are outgoing, articulate, committed to international humanitarian service, and able to adapt to other cultures will be strong candidates. Rotary Scholars will need to demonstrate a good understanding of U.S. history, current events and culture.

Application Process

Applications must be filed through the Forest Grove Rotary Club or through the applicant’s hometown Rotary Club. Application deadlines are set by individual Rotary Clubs. The number of scholarships available varies from one Rotary district to another. Screening occurs at both the local and district levels. All students interested in applying for a Rotary scholarship should contact the Rotary International Scholarship Coach, listed below, by the first semester of the junior year, at the latest.
