Study Abroad in Munich
Program Information
The Munich program is a two-semester study abroad program which was established by Lewis & Clark College at the Ludwig-Maximilians
Universitat (LMU) in 1972. The program was one of the first full-year programs of its kind in the Pacific Northwest and it is accredited by the University of Munich.
Founded in 1472, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitat Munchen is considered one of the finest schools in Germany. Its department of German is the largest in the world and because Munich is a center of art, learning, and culture, the city offers extensive opportunities for American students.
Outstanding features of the program include an intensive 4-week presemester, a wide range of courses offered by Lewis & Clark and LMU, the support of a Resident Director, and a teaching approach that combines theory and practice, knowledge and experience. Every year 20-30 students from Lewis & Clark, Reed College, Willamette University and other American institutions participate in the program. They live together with German and international students in the Studentenstadt.
During their year in Munich, students take courses, participate in internships, travel through Germany and Europe, meet interesting people, and grow both academically and personally.
