Electronics

Electronics is an upper division physics course in which students learn the basics of designing and building electronic circuits, including the use of diodes, transistors, op amps, and digital logic ICs. Like many of our classes in the physics department, much of the class is taught through student projects. These are some of the projects students worked on this year.

Guitar effects processor: One student built a cirucit to provide distortion and "Wah" to his guitar.
Infrared transmitter and receiver: In this project, students built an infrared transmitter and receiver and used it to transmit music from a cd player.
Laser pointer game: In this project, students built an arcade game using red and green LEDs and photodetectors. Players use a laser pointer to illuminate a target when an LED is lit up. The game was controlled by a microprocessor that the students programmed.
