Workshop physics

Workshop Physics is a carefully crafted curriculum for calculus-based physics that replaces lectures with activity-based learning. Physical phenomena are investigated through student-directed collection, graphical display and analysis of real data. It is a lot of fun and students generally prefer it to lecture based classes.

One of the highlights of Workshop Physics is getting to break a board with your hands. Students do about 3 hours of calculations beforehand, incorporating measurements they have made and ideas of conservation of energy and momentum. As you can see from the video clip it is an exciting demonstration.
