The Byron Steiger Trivia Game

Students who have taken Professor Byron Steiger’s Sociology 101 or 102 courses are familiar with his love of trivia games. If you haven’t had the chance to take a class with Professor Steiger, you can still test yourself on some of his trivia questions.

Q&A with Sociology Grad, Lesley Bart (2007)

What are you up to now?

As of September 2007 I will be attending The Ohio State University, where I will be pursuing an M.A. in Women’s Studies. While at OSU I will spend my time serving as a Teaching Assistant and will be specializing in sexuality studies within my Women's Studies degree. While in Columbus, I hope to work with the Grad Queer program, which coordinates activities for the LGBT graduate community of OSU.

Pacific Memories

One of the things I enjoyed most about Pacific was how closely I was able to work with other students and faculty. Pacific's small size and the accessibility of the professors allowed me to pursue research projects beyond what was expected of me in the classroom. I also enjoyed being able to spend time and work with a core group of students within the Sociology department who challenged me intellectually and whom I became close friends with.

One of my fondest memories of Pacific was working for the Center for Women and Gender Equity. Creating and sustaining a feminist dialogue and presence at Pacific was an incredibly important part of my experience at Pacific; one I will always be grateful for. Pacific provides students with a tremendous amount of opportunities to become involved and active in the campus and Forest Grove community. Whether it be working at B Street Farm, becoming involved with PUCC, or working for the Center for Women and Gender Equity, there is a place for everyone to make a difference in the community.

Q&A with Sociology Grad, Michael Givler (2001)

What are you up to now?

At Pacific, I was taught to learn and to teach myself.  These skills have allowed me to pursue my passions and live a full life as an adult. Since graduating from Pacific, I have earned a master’s degree and worked at three different universities and one high school.  I have been a counselor, an admissions officer, graduate program coordinator, math teacher, speech coach, and now a theater teacher.

On Pacific faculty members & small class sizes

Pacific is a very special place.  It's inviting, friendly, and deeply engaging.  The faculty combines a love of teaching and learning with a concern for who their students are as unique individuals.  My first semester at Pacific, I had a class with just six students! In my junior and senior years, I enrolled in independent study courses working one-on-one with professors.
