Anita Mitchell began her training with Vinni Frederick and the North Carolina School of the Arts under the direction of Robert Lindgren and Duncan Noble. She also studied with Jillana, Lawrence Rosenburg, Richard Englund, Robert Joffrey and Eugene Loring. In addition, Ms. Mitchell studied modern with Bella Lewitzky and jazz with Luigi and Gus Giordano. In 1987, Ms. Mitchell earned her Masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of California, Irvine, where she worked closely with Professor Olga Maynard. Ms. Mitchell has performed with regional companies on both east and west coasts, namely the North Carolina School of the Arts, Bristol Concert Ballet and Capistrano Ballet (now Anaheim Ballet). Ms. Mitchell performed frequently at University of California, Irvine, MFA concerts and was a guest artist at California State University, Fullerton, Golden Gate College and Cypress College. She also appeared on MTV in a music video for Z3. In 1987, she founded the Classical Dance Department of the Orange County High School of the Arts. From 1987 to 1991, Ms. Mitchell was the West Coast Ballet Mistress for the children appearing the Joffrey Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker. Ms. Mitchell was the Founding Director of Northwest Conservatory of Dance, which she led from 1994-2004. She is also Founding Director of Northwest American Ballet and currently teaches ballet at Dance Vision in Oregon City, Oregon.
