German
German is the most widely spoken first language in the European Union, the official language of five western European counties and a second language for many eastern European countries. Germany itself has the largest national economy in Europe and is one of the world's top exporters. The country is a technological giant, so learning the language is of benefit to those interested in international business, technology, diplomacy, international relations and education as well as social and cultural activities in the areas of music, literature and the arts. Pacific University students have had remarkable success in obtaining Fulbright Scholarships for post-graduate work teaching or doing research in Austria and Germany. In addition, German studies majors have been awarded prestigious scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Service and the Kongress Bundestag to study abroad. Our University students earning a bachelor's degree in German studies have found careers in business, international law, the health professions, computer science, media arts, education and university administration. |
