Speed Networking: Uncover the Hidden Job Market

The hidden job market is uncovered through conversations with the right people ~ a set of skills necessary to thrive in todays competitive job market. It is not just who you know, but who knows what you know! To develop this skill-set, Speed Networking: Creating Connections is a learning lab to practice engaging in brief, effective career conversations with professionals. This high octane event will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 2:00 where students:
- practice stating "elevator speech"
- meet alumni from a wide range of professions
- learn about companies/industries of interest
- establish a list of new contacts
Speed Networking participants required to attend a pre-workshop to learn how to present their career intentions during the critical first five minutes of meeting a professional- an essential skill to develop for future job interviews and/or graduate school admissions. Pre-workshop participants will:
- create a positioning statement
- access credible resources to conduct field research
- practice exchanging business cards professionally
- review professional communication standards
