Date:    February 28th

Time:   7:30 (door open) to 9:30

Place:   La Hacienda, 2020 Main, Forest Grove, Oregon

Spend an evening in a café environment with this nationally recognized poet.  T Miller will perform her poetry, talk about her work, and help judge the Poetry Slam.

All are welcome to read their work on a first come, first served basis.  Registration to read will start when doors open at 7:30.  Contact jdc@pacificu.edu for questions.  This Poetry Slam event has drawn large and diverse crowds from Forest Grove and surrounding cities for the last several years when we featured Patricia Smith and Andrea Gibson.  So if you want broad exposure to your work, don’t miss this opportunity.

Sponsors:  Pacific University’s Center for Gender Equity, ACE Board, Black Student Union and Slam Poetry Club

T Miller is the author of “Coming Out of Nowhere” which grapples with, among other things, hate crimes and homophobia.  She is currently producing a documentary about transgender teens from Detroit.  Miller describes her work in this way: “Through my writing I provide a sense of forgiveness, and healing, and empowerment. By bringing my own stories, and being truthful and honest about how I deal with them, I actually help other people to sit down and reflect and deal with their problems in a more realist way. I just really understand that what I’m doing isn’t as much poetry as it is real life” (www.be-colleges.com/our-roster/spoken-word/natasha-t-miller.html).
