Spring Choral ConcertApr 4, 2014, 7:30 PM
Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center (McCready Hall)
Pacific University's Music Department presents the Spring Choral Concert, featuring the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers.
The Concert Choir, under the direction of Steve Peter, will begin the concert by performing a varied set of European choral works. They will open with contemporary Norwegian composer Ola Gjielo’s “Prelude,” and continue with Brahms' “Dem dunkeln schoss der heilgen erde” and British composer Philip Wilbye’s, “North Country Folk Songs.” Assistant director David Rivas will take the podium for the Latvian song “Es Gulu Gulu.” Closing their portion of the program will be the jaunty Romanian song, "Sarba pe scaun," from Alexandru Pascanu’s, “Suita Scurta.” Quirky and silly, it’s a wonderful way to end their set.
Dr. Scott Tuomi and the Chamber Singers will follow with a performance of works by Monteverdi, John Sheppard, Eric Whitacre, Robert Sund and many others including the very haunting “The Gallant Weaver” by Scottish composer James MacMillan. The concert will also feature our Early Music Ensemble, “Ars Nova.” During the concert the Friends of Music also will honor their latest inductee into the Music Hall of Fame, John Jensen.
This concert is Friday, April 4th at 7:30 p.m. in McCready Hall. It is free to students with ID, $5 for faculty, children and seniors. General admission is $7.
