Pacific University’s Center for Gender Equity (CGE) and the Hillsboro/Forest Grove branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will honor 12 local high school girls for high achievement in math and sciences.

March 16, 2014

2 to 4 p.m.

Taylor Auditorium, Marsh Hall 216, Pacific University

The United States has become a global leader, in large part, through the genius and hard work of its scientists, engineers and innovators. Yet today, that position is threatened as comparatively few American students pursue expertise in STEM fields, and this is particularly true of women. As a result, many national leaders have set a priority of increasing the number of women who are proficient in these vital areas. CGE and AAUW support these efforts by recognizing girls in local high schools who excel in STEM subjects.

The event will include a panel of women professionals in the sciences speaking of their training, experiences, opportunities, and obstacles for women in STEM fields.

Free and open to the public.

The following students will receive an award for excellence in the STEM disciplines:

Oteka Todd, Banks High School

Larissa P. Gonzalez Nieves and Jessica Lynn Jorgenson, Century High School

Emily C. Burgess and Allison Fellger, Forest Grove High School

Tova Hershman, Gaston High School

Anna Burton and Erika Carrizales, Glencoe High School

Ashley Loberger and Maira Contreras, Hillsboro High School

Rohi Gheewala and Prowshchal Mahato, Liberty High School
