DanceWorks X

Apr 26, 2013 - Apr 27, 2013, 7:30 PM
Tom Miles Theatre (Warner Hall) - 2115 Pacific Ave.

Pacific University's Dance Ensemble presents its spring production. Evening performances begin at 7:30, and Saturday also offers a matinee at 2 p.m.

The concert is filled with a mix of works from classical to contemporary and performed by Pacific’s very own university dance company, Pacific Dance Ensemble (PDE).

On the program, prestigious guest choreographers Lauren Edson and Carlyn Hudson will stage new works on the PDE.

Additional works by senior student choreographer Katie Gillem, faculty member Mary Hunt and artistic director Jennifer L. Camp.

Camp established Pacific Dance Ensemble in 2004, one year after arriving at Pacific University.

The company has grown to between 15 and 25 dancers at a time, who come from diverse dance backgrounds.

Camp describes, “the diverse training creates a balance within the group and aids in the company’s ability to dance classical works, contemporary, musical theatre and African dance, and many others styles."

The students are required to take daily technique each day in addition to their daily rehearsal and academic schedule.

Camp has presented the company in numerous Portland performances since 2008, including the Fertile Ground Festival/Groovin Green House on February 2.

Camp is pleased to announce that the Theatre and Dance program's recent establishment of the dance major as an official program last fall.

“Students are able to attend professional dance performances by local, national, and international companies as well as get exposure and experience from arts and dance companies in the area, while completing their degree at Pacific," Camp said, alluding to the university's close proximity to Portland's thriving artistic scene.

Tickets range from $5 to $8 and can be purchased at the door.
