Pacific University's Music Department presents its spring Choral Concert, featuring the university's Chamber Singers and its Concert Choir.
The Pacific University Music Department presents its Spring Choral Concert on Friday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center (2014 Cedar Street, Forest Grove).
The concert will feature the Pacific University Chamber Singers, directed by Dr. Scott Tuomi, and the Pacific University Concert Choir, directed by Steve Peter.
The concert choir will present a very diverse program of choral repertoire in six languages.
They will begin with a German piece by Felix Mendelssohn, followed by a Latin piece by Dutch composer Jan Pieterzoon Sweelinck.
Next will come the Swedish love song, Stormskars Maja, followed by pieces in Spanish, English and Swahili.
The Pacific University Chamber Singers will sing repertoire from their recent concert tour of Idaho, Washington and Victoria B.C.
Their singers' repertoire includes motets by Vytautas Miskinis, Maurice Durufle and Johannes Brahms.
The chamber singers will celebrate the centennial of British composer Benjamin Britten by performing his "Hymn to St. Cecilia."
Cello instructor Noah Seitz is featured in the mystical "Svyati," by John Tavener.
Other works include the haunting, Ave Maris Stella by Mark Thomas and a rousing Haitian Vodou song, "Papa Loko."
General admission is $7. Pacific University faculty, staff and alumni are admitted for $5, and current students are admitted free with valid I.D.
