Pacific University's Philharmonic and Chamber Ensembles presents its spring concert.
The Pacific Philharmonic & Chamber Ensembles Spring Concert will be held on Saturday, April 20th at 7:30pm in McCready Hall. This concert will feature over 20 students! The first half will include chamber ensembles featuring Wesley Porter (oboe) and Lars Holte (piano) playing Poulenc, Dane Lum Ho (electric guitar) and Travis Stine (ukulele) playing Chick Corea, a piano quintet by Vaughan Williams featuring Sam Hess (violin), Justin Redona (viola), Josie Losh (cello), Kaitlin Fairchild (double bass) and Lars Holte (piano), and a string orchestra performing the beloved “Dargason” from Holst’s St. Paul’s Suite as well as the music of Ernst Bloch, a man who spent the last twenty years of his life composing and living in Agate Beach, Oregon.
The Friends of Music will present two new inductees into Pacific University’s Music Hall of Fame: Eunice Gustafson from the class of 1949 and Kathy Compton from the class of 1960.
The Pacific Philharmonic will perform on the second half, playing phenomenal works by cherished composers Tchaikovsky, Bruckner, and Schubert, as well as Bruch’s Romanze for Viola & Orchestra featuring student soloist Justin Redona. The program also includes two songs from the multi-award winning musical and movie Les Miserables. Rebecca McDonell will portray the character of Fantine, serving as soloist on the tug-on-your-heart-strings song “I Dreamed a Dream.” Twelve singers will also perform the exuberant “One Day More” with the Pacific Philharmonic, soloists of which include Eric Asakawa as Valjean, Hannah Lee as Cosette, Brett Peldyak as Marius, Samantha Trulock as Eponine, Gavin Knittle as Javert, Evan Tait as Enjolras, Megan Moll as Madame Thenardier, and Ryan Lee as Thenardier. Assuredly, you will leave the concert with a smile on your face and whistling or humming the tunes all the way home! We hope to see you there!
