Works by Miel-Margarita Paredes and Jessica Kreutter on display. Artists' talk and reception slated for Wednesday, Feb. 6. Free admission.
The Kathrin Cawein Gallery of Art exhibit features work by Miel-Margarita Paredes and Jessica Kreutter.
Paredes is a Portland metalsmith and stop-motion puppet skeleton maker. Her metalwork incorporates the animal figure and traditional ornamental devices to interpret the ways in which we humans manipulate our environment and the creatures in it to suit our needs.
In fragmented installations using discarded objects and porcelain, Kreutter explores loss, memory and its transformation through time. Within these spaces of decay and suspended time, Jessica imagines what materializes from these shadows and the forms that could exist in these ruins.
The show is on display through Feb. 22. Admission is free and gallery hours are from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, or by appointment.
