A daylong conference for boys, age 12-15, to discuss diverse issues, express themselves and explore what it means to be male in today's society

On April 19, the Center for Gender Equity will host a conference for boys, ages 12 through 15. The daylong conference is designed to bring the boys together to discuss diverse issues that schools often cannot adequately address. “It’s a Guy Thing” will shed light on important issues while letting boys express themselves, explore what it means to be male in today’s society, and propose strategies to address their common concerns.

Through the “It’s A Guy Thing” Conference, boys will have the opportunity to speak on pressing issues and be heard with the aid of trained facilitators from Pacific’s School of Professional Psychology. The summit will include an opening session, small group sessions on specific issues, activities, and a free “It’s a Guy Thing” gift for all participants. The conference model is designed to engage boys in critical thought and constructive problem solving, while demonstrating that adults care about their educational and personal development. Another goal of the conference is to expose the boys to the university and encourage them to begin thinking about going to college. A panel of Pacific undergraduate male students will discuss their own college experiences.

There is also a Parents’ Meeting at 8:30 to 9:00 in Old College Hall where parents will get information about the events of the day and learn about the research and rationale behind the conference.
