The goal of this workshop is to facilitate a learning environment in which all youth can thrive. This workshop explores issues facing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) kids in our public schools and social institutions, and those with LGBT parents. It combines presentations, discussions, group activities, a panel of counselors, and a panel of LGBT parents and students with LGBT parents, all designed to give participants the tools to effectively support LGBT youth and those with LGBT parents. We will work on practicing skills such as how to respond when LGBT youth are targets of verbal or physical bullying, designing inclusive classroom activities, and working with parents.
There are presentations from organizations such as PFLAG, TransActive, SMYRC, and education professors of Linfield and Pacific Universities. This workshop is open to all who care about this issue in their children's schools and other social institutions.
