The Berglund Center for Internet Studies presents Engage, Act, Reflect, Share: Learning is all EARS with speaker Dr. Jane Maitland-Gholson as part of the 2013 Oregon Technology in Education Network Conference, sponsored by Pacific University.

The Berglund Center for Internet Studies will present its first roundtable event of the 2013 Fall Series at noon on September 28th in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR), Pacific University Forest Grove Campus. The presentation is part of the 2013 Oregon Technology in Education Network (OTEN) Annual Conference “Classroom Without Boundaries: Teaching and Learning in the Postmodal World”.

Dr. Jane Maitland-Gholson, our keynote speaker, had twenty-six years of educational experience, including public school teaching, teaching at the University of Illinois, and tenured positions in the Department of Art Education and the Arts and Administration Program at the University of Oregon prior to joining the Applied Information Management (AIM) Program. She managed an undergraduate teacher education program, taught undergraduate courses in The Arts and Visual Literacy, and graduate courses in Research Methods and Arts Program Evaluation. Dr. Maitland-Gholson has advised both Masters and Doctoral research. She has said that the experience of middle school teaching is "the best and worst of preparation for anything that follows." She is at her happiest in the teaching/learning environment, whether face-to-face or virtual, where complex, interdependent, interactive processes are forever fascinating and even exhilarating.

Her presentation, entitled Engage, Act, Reflect, Share: Learning is all EARS, will explore the ways in which our fundamental beliefs about learners and learning impact how we imagine and implement teaching in a post-modal world. She will demonstrate her simple "EARS" approach for translating ideas into action, an approach that has served her well across all multiple teaching contexts, both synchronous and asynchronous.

The OTEN Annual Conference is a yearly event that brings together educators from all over the State of Oregon to share ideas in order to improve teaching and learning by integrating technology in the curriculum. This year, the event will be held at the Pacific University Forest Grove Campus on September 28th. For more information and to register for the full days events visit the 2013 OTEN Annual Conference website.

The Berglund Center facilitates both theoretical discussion and practical action relating to the impact of the Internet upon individuals and their communities worldwide. The Roundtable series began in 2005 and features topics of significant current concern relating to the impact of the Internet. All Roundtables are videotaped and available online athttp://www.vimeo.com/bcis.
