AmeriCorps Links

Through the Northwest Service Academy, there are opportunities for Pacific students to be part-time AmeriCorps Links members while they study and to receive an education award upon successful completion of their service.  Links members work with community organizations to address human needs and environmental issues in the surrounding community.  This accomplished primarily through assignment to a local school or community organization that is the focus of the member's work.  Typical duties might be some of the following:

• tutoring and mentoring school children.

• addressing issues of hunger or homelessness.

• restoring the natural environment through removal of invasive species and planting native species, clean up of waste, etc.

• teaching environmental principles to school children and other local residents

• assisting with efforts to conserve energy and resources through sustainable practices.

• teaching literacy to Hispanic families.

• addressing the needs of individuals or their children within the justice system.

• promoting local food production and consumption through participation in the B St Farm and charter school.
