Highland UCC Tutoring Program
Highland UCC Tutoring program was begun with a grant from the UCC Home Ministries Board in 1993. Under this program, we partner with Highland United Church of Christ in NE Portland to provide tutoring support for young people from the congregation and surrounding neighborhood. This also gives Pacific students an opportunity to learn about the life and culture of the Highland congregation and students. A team of Pacific student tutors goes twice each week to work with Highland students.
Tutors commit to at least a full semester (preferably a full academic year) with the program. They assist students ranging from elementary through high school with homework and devise exercises and games that practice basic academic skills. They serve as role models and mentors to the students, encouraging their life goals and discussing problems.
