Background

Pacific University has received a gift from Trustee John King in the amount of $100,000 to establish the Sara Hopkins-Powell Endowed Scholarship Fund in honor of Hopkins-Powell, currently the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, who served as the inaugural executive dean of the College of Health Professions and Vice Provost from 2005-2010.  Prior to her role at Pacific, Sara spent 12 years at Southern Oregon University, her last position as interim president.  Sara has more than 35 years of experience as an educator, consultant and manager in a variety of healthcare settings; she holds a BS degree from Ohio State University and an MPH and PhD from University of California, Berkeley.

John King also has a long history in healthcare and education.  He spent over 15 years with Legacy Health System in Portland, serving as CEO for eight of those years.  He received an AB degree from Dartmouth College and an MHA from University of Minnesota.  John has served on the Board of Trustees for Pacific University since 1999.

Both John and Sara share a passion for travel and expanding healthcare to developing communities.
