Reading Specialist & English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Dual Endorsement Program
The Reading Specialist and ESOL or ESOL/bilingual endorsements may be obtained simultaneously by completing 25 semester credits comprising of core courses and practica. Candidates who earn the Reading Specialist and ESOL endorsements will be qualified to teach reading to students pre-kindergarten through grade twelve and English-language learners within the authorization level by completing 21 semester credits of core courses and 4 semester practicum credits for each endorsement area. Additionally, candidates must pass the state-approved Reading Specialist and ESOL tests, and submit required portfolios or case studies. Those seeking the ESOL/bilingual endorsement will need to achieve a level of High/Intermediate on the ACTFL oral language exam.
In order to qualify for the Reading Specialist and ESOL or ESOL/bilingual dual endorsement, candidates must hold a current Initial or Continuing Teaching License endorsed for the regular classroom or special education, or be enrolled in a pre-service program leading to an Initial Teaching License endorsed for the regular or special education classroom.
