Special Education Endorsement Program
The Special Education Endorsement is offered in conjunction with the APT Special Education Program. Candidates can be licensed as Special Educator - Early Childhood and Elementary (Ages 3 - Grade 8) or Special Educator - Middle and High School (Grade 5 - Age 21). Teachers with either of these authorizations can teach individuals with mild, moderate, and severe disabilities, with the exception of communication disorders, hearing impairments, or visual impairments. Individuals with disabilities may be served in resource, self-contained, or inclusive programs. The program is for teachers with a restricted license in Special Education or general educators who wish to change their teaching focus.
Requirements include Woodcock Johnson III workshop and one work sample, with an emphasis on specially designed instruction in accordance with TSPC regulations. In addition to completing coursework, candidates must pass the following tests:
- Praxis II Special Education: Knowledge-Based Core Principles (0351)
- ORELA
Please note that the ORELA is not required for licensure. However, the ORELA is required in order to be considered highly qualified.
