Anita McClain
Professor of Education; Elem./Middle Strand Coordinator, MAT 5th Year Program (Forest Grove)
Dr. McClain is the reading specialist in the College of Education. She teaches the majority of reading courses offered in the College of Education, and is nationally recognized for her textbook, Reading in the Content Areas: Practical Strategies, which she has coauthored. Locally, she has worked with 18 school districts giving professional development workshops to improve reading in the middle schools and high schools. For five years, Dr. McClain was the Editor of the Journal of Reading Education. She has chaired and served on a number of committees for the International Reading Association. Annually she makes presentations at the Oregon Reading Association State Conference, the International Reading Association Conference, the Oregon Reading Association Student Conference as well as occasional presentations for other organizations. Dr. McClain received the Oregon Reading Association Lifetime Literacy Award in 2001. This was awarded for exemplary contribution to literacy in the state of Oregon for the past 35 years. In June of 2002, she received the University of Oregon, College of Education Outstanding Alumnus Award for her contributions to higher education, literacy and the community. Dr. McClain has taught and Pacific University for 18 years. Prior to Pacific, she taught at Lewis and Clark College for 15 years. Before teaching at the university level she taught full time in public schools in Oregon and California.
